About Dr. Joel Haight

Dr. Joel Haight is a Member of the Board of Directors of Primegrid Renewable Energy, Incorporated and a professor of industrial engineering in the Swanson School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, where he teaches and conducts research on productivity improvement, human factors engineering, and safety engineering. Over the last 40 years, Professor Haight has published more than 60 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, book chapters, and proceedings papers.

Dr. Haight was chief of the Human Factors Branch at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where he managed nearly 40 researchers in ergonomics, cognitive engineering, and human behavior and training.

Dr. Haight also worked for almost 10 years as an associate professor of energy and mineral engineering at Pennsylvania State University. Before joining the Penn State faculty, he was a manager and engineer for Chevron Corporation for 18 years. He is a Fellow and a Director-At-Large at the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP). He has a Ph.D. and master’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Auburn University. He is also a professional member of the American Society of Safety Professionals, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, and the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.
